Having just returned yesterday from Prague I would like to further comment on our new and improved "Security". I
was fortunate enough to not be strip searched but the 15 year old high school student did have to search my hand luggage since
it set an alarm off when it went through the X-Ray machine. Upon completion of the search I casually asked "what do
you think set the alarm off?" Her answer was "well it could have been the batteries in your bag (I had my walk man with
me as the Lufthansa 747's dont have personal video screens yet) or someone elses bag". Ok kids someone else's bag mine
was the only one pulled off and hand checked. At this point I knew best not to ask and only hope that indeed someone
did have a bomb in their carry on and I would be blown to pieces over the atlantic and saved from future acts of stupidity.
Moving on to airlines well I have heard Virgin Atlantic described as an airborne third world nation with those
in Upper Class as the haves and those in economy as the have nots. Apparently the gap between haves and have nots is
the only gap allowed on their aircraft as they have the smallest seat pitch in the industry. David I feel for you.
I
will say Lufthansa was great. I was expecting efficient but certainly not nice. (You know the Germans have always been
good at "shipping" people to their destinations)
All kidding aside the service from SFO to FRA was great the only downside
is their 747's don't have personal video screens. David I cant tell you how many times drinks were offered and snacks.
The best example of the Lufthansa service has to be on the flight from FRA to PRG. Scheduled at 1 hour 20 and
actually only 50 minutes our full 737-300 staffed with 4 flight attendants received two drink services a meal and a coffee
service. Truely over the top.
Anyway I will give it a rest.
