It all began with Suburbia Undercover, a mock investigative journalism show about teen substance abuse. Inspired by Teen Magazine and written in a single day by LaTaviya (Alexis Gentry) and Dr. Gregory (Greg Garner), it was produced at Boulder's public access station, CATV. It featured Dr.Gregory and LaTaviya exposing the troubles facing teens today, including obesity and substance abuse. It also featured Pat Sue Gentry and Fumiko Yoshikawa-Egger playing Debbie Lynn Skokie and Tamiea Kawisaki, parents of teens who lost their lives to some of these modern troubles. While dealing with serious subjects, it was a satirical example of the way the media blows things out of proportion and uses scare tactics to influence teenagers. This hilarious 15 minute piece lead to the founding of trashwire.com.
