Although there is no known gang activity at Boulder High School, there are students in Boulder County
known as Gang Wannabes. These are students who adopt the mannerisms or fashions of certain gangs.
Though this is done in a very unrealistic and romanticized way, it is important to provide tips for recognizing
gang wannabe behavior.
Gang wannabees have:
no gang affiliations
no knowledge of inner gang workings
an unrealistic and romanticized view of gang life
reasons for identifying with gangs, including a sense of fellowship; a sense of belonging
low self-esteem and a need to fit in
fascination with "tagging"
a preoccupation with gang dress (hard- core gang members are not as meticulous with their
clothing)
a fascination with gang-related moves
