Yes, Madonna's concert has been playing to yawns of disinterest coast to coast. A minor scandal erupted in New York when
it turned out that her concerts there were not sold out as originally advertised. In fact, promoters had held back blocks
of seats anticipating that they could sell them at a premium. Alas, they had to let them back out on the market. Not only
were Madonna's New York dates not sold out, but my personal check of Ticketmaster a few days ago showed that tickets were
still available for every date on her tour.
As for the rest of the aging rocker crowd, Annie Lennox and Sting will be touring together, although there seems to be
some confusion as to just who is the headliner, and who the opening act. Sting appears to have the upper hand here, for not
only has he kept a higher profile by writing the music for every commercial on television (now that Moby is on apparent hiatus),
he has also announced that by "special arrangement" American Express Card holders will be able to buy tickets before the general
public. It seems that his droning squeeze box performance on the Oscars didn't scare away the Platinum Card crowd after all.
Ms. Lennox, on the other hand, has only her caterwauling of the Lord of the Rings pseudo-anthem to attract the attention of
concert goers. Word has it that she will limit her songs on tour to those from her album "Bare' which I have not heard and
so cannot comment on. I can however comment on the high-priced drink coaster that I bought featuring the Eurythmics'"comeback".
I couldn't give it away. Literally. I have tried. No one will take it.
Finally, "Believe" it or not (ha ha ha ha, I crack myself up!), Cher's Neverending Really Positively
No-I'm-Serious-I-Am-Retiring Farewell Tour is still going strong. Coming soon to a Mall near you!
